Robberies Put Long Island Pharmacies On Edge

Pharmacy robberies have climbed all across the country, and in Long Island alone, two such robberies resulted in six deaths.  The drugs of choice are narcotic pain killers, like oxycodone. Radiation scanners mounted on squad cars seems like a scene out of a futuristic science fiction movie. But, if the NYPD and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly have their way, it will be a reality sooner than you might think. The agency is working to develop a system of scanners that will identify people on the street who might be strapped with a firearm. NY DNA Database May Include Misdemeanor Offenders

Currently, if you are convicted of a felony or one of 37 misdemeanors in the state of New York, you must submit to a DNA screening and have your genetic code entered into a database. But the volume of this database could be significantly increased if Governor Andrew Cuomo has his way.
